The 2016 statistics for road fatalities have been released and they don’t make for good reading for the Irish Road Authority.

A total of 187 people lost their lives on Irish roads last year in 175 accidents, 25 more people than who died in crashes in 2015.

Transport Minister Shane Ross didn’t hold back in his condemnation of the figures saying that deaths on Irish roads last year were “calamitous” and further legislation required to make drivers change their practices.

So we asked today if more drink driving legislation will actually lead to fewer fatalities on our roads?
